The robots are coming and they’re going to take 50% of all jobs. That’s according to Professor Joseph Aoun, President of the Northeastern University in the USA. He is not a pessimist, however.

His book ‘Robot-Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’ argues that universities need to shift towards offering lifelong learning options, so that people can train and retrain throughout their lives. He is confident that higher education – if it were geared away from mainly teaching 18-21 year olds and towards providing learning throughout life instead – can protect itself and its students against obsolescence by turning its focus on the distinctly human skills of communication and ethics.

Watch the captivating discussion between Sir Anthony Seldon of the University of Buckingham and Professor Joseph Aoun on ‘Preparing Students for the 21st Century’.
